As a foster home for Bright Futures Farm, Inc., I _______________________________, understand that if the horse I foster is a horse that cannot be ridden due to an injury that I will not attempt to ride that horse, or permit anyone else to do so. I further understand that if I foster a horse that can be ridden and I have been authorized to ride that particular horse, Bright Futures Farm, Inc. has only authorized “me” to do so unless a potential adopter wishes to visit the horse. I understand that the potential adopter will be interviewed, and will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to visiting, and I will be provided with a copy of same. I understand that if I choose to allow someone other than myself ride the horse I am fostering for Bright Futures Farm, Inc. without their permission, that I am solely responsible for any liability that should occur – be it property damage, personal injury or death. _____initials.
As a foster home for Bright Futures Farm, Inc., I, _______________________, agree to care for a horse from Bright Futures Farm, Inc. in a manner consistent with maintaining a healthy horse which includes, but is not limited to his usual ration of grain (information to be provided regarding the feeding habits of each individual horse), ample hay and/or pasture to provide for a healthy weight, and unlimited access to fresh water daily. If the horse is in need of farrier, dental or medical care, I will provide the necessary care to provide for a safe and healthy horse for the period of time that the horse is in my care.
I will notify Beverlee Dee and Bright Futures Farm, Inc. if an illness or injury occurs while the horse is in my care and I will provide emergency veterinary care if necessary without question, and immediately contact Beverlee Dee and Bright Futures Farm, Inc. to determine the course of action to take beyond emergency treatment. _____initials.
I understand that Bright Futures Farm, Inc. is not giving the horse to me unconditionally. I understand that I am fostering the horse for Bright Futures Farm, Inc., and that I may not give away, sell, lease, move or transfer ownership of the horse I am caring for [for Bright Futures Farm, Inc.]. _____ initials.
I understand that Bright Futures Farm, Inc. will provide me with documentation that identifies the horse I agree to foster, and that such documentation may include information “about” the horse that has been provided to Bright Futures Farm, Inc. by the former owner. I understand that I will need to sign that document and return it to Bright Futures Farm, Inc. prior to receiving the horse/s I agree to foster. I further understand that in most cases, Bright Futures Farm, Inc. is receiving their horses “sight unseen” and has no means of evaluating the horses’ temperament, soundness or level of schooling prior to the horses’ arrival at my home/facility. _____ initials.
###
Please initial the paragraph below which best describes the fostering situation you desire:
1. If I am fostering with no intent to adopt, I understand that the horse will remain in my care until Bright Futures Farm, Inc. finds a permanent home for the horse, a new foster home, or has room at their facility to take the horse. ._____(initials)
2. If I am fostering with the intent to adopt, I understand that I will have sixty days to decide if the horse and I are a good match. If I decide to adopt, I understand that I must submit my application and any additional documents required within the 60 day trial period. If I decide not to adopt, I agree to continue to care for the horse until Bright Futures Farm, Inc. can find a permanent home, new foster home, or has room at their facility to take the horse. Furthermore, if I intend to adopt, I understand that I will reimburse Bright Futures Farm for the original cost to transport the horse to my home/farm/stable in addition to paying the adoption fee specified for that particular horse._____(initials)
3. I am fostering permanently to help Bright Futures Farm reduce the number of horses in their care. _____(initials)
4. I understand that animals are never truly predictable, no matter how well trained. I also understand that horses are flight animals, and should one become frightened, no matter how well trained, it can react in a manner that could cause injury. Therefore, I further understand that liability does transfer to me once a horse is placed with me. _____(initials).
