Bright Futures Farm is a sanctuary for retired Thoroughbreds.  We find homes for many horses that have the potential for a new career as a trail horse or family pleasure mount.   Our focus is to save as many horses as we can before  they are faced with neglect or auction.

We are always in need of foster homes.  When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm.  Fostering expenses are tax-deductible.  If you have room, please ask us about our foster program.

Allo G'Bye (Dolly)

(Personable Joe - Twirp)

Dolly came from Mountaineer in 2001 at age 4.  She bowed a tendon and could no longer race.  Her personality was even more beautiful than her physical appearance.  She loved people, loved to please, and was as loyal as a horse can be.  She was adopted after rehab by a local woman, then we took her back due to financial issues in their home.  She was then adopted by Becky & Josh Hetrick.  I don't know if a horse could have any more love than they gave her.  She had one of the best lives a horse could ask for with them.

She went to a horse show yesterday (07/27/2008).  Sometime after they returned home, it was apparent that she wasn't feeling well, and they knew her well and knew it wasn't just a simple belly ache, so they called their local vet.  She was given muscle relaxers, and tubed.  She appeared to be doing well, then not.  Rather than take any chance, they vanned her to Equine Specialty Hospital in Aurora, Oh early this morning.  Becky called me at 4am.  Dolly was highly medicated, and there was nothing more that the doctors could do.

I am full of grief, but I cannot even begin to imagine how Becky & Josh must feel, knowing how much they loved her.
