SPONSOR A PERMANENT RESIDENT

Why Sponsor One of Our Permanent Residents?

Our permanent residents are horses that are not adoptable (either because of

advanced age or permanent injury), and because their care is fully funded

by monthly donations, sponsorships are vital to our rescue efforts.

Without donations and sponsorships, we cannot rescue horses.

More importantly, we cannot provide forever homes to special needs horses

that no one wants and have nowhere else to go.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LOVE

Sign up to sponsor one of our horses each month with a donation of $25 or more, and we'll send you two free gifts: a color photo of your horse and a stainless steel thermal tumbler personalized with photos of your horse and the Bright Futures Farm logo: Rescue, Retrain, Ride & Repeat.

Scroll down to read about our permanent residents and choose a horse to sponsor. Your donations are always tax-deductible and they help us pay for each horse's feed, hay, supplements, farrier and vet care each month. SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

BRITE DECISION (Brite)

BRIGHT FUTURES FARM'S "FOUNDER"

BRITE DECISION (High Brite - Early Decision)

Registered Thoroughbred Gelding

16.1 Hands, Foaled: 03/10/1992

Bev Dee's mission to save horses from abuse and neglect began in 1999 with Brite Decision. When Bev saw Brite for the first time, he walked slowly from the back of his stall to greet her, and despite his obvious pain, he was gentle and friendly. Bev connected with him immediately and knew there was something really special about him. When she asked about him, she was told that two veterinarians had recommended euthanasia and Bev adopted him on the spot. It took 36 long months of constant vet care and rehabilitation, but Brite was finally healed enough to be pasture sound. Today, Brite is happy and healthy and is the heart and soul of the rescue efforts at Bright Futures Farm. Read the full Story Of Brite on the About page.

FAST MARKET (CAN) (Markie)

SON OF THE GREAT SECRETARIAT

FAST MARKET (CAN) (Secretariat - Tina's Ten)

Registered Thoroughbred Gelding

15.3 Hands, Foaled: 02/04/1986

Markie is the last son of the legendary racehorse, Secretariat, to have raced. In his racing career, he won over a quarter million dollars and his most notable victory was winning Canada's Grade II Puss-N-Boots Stakes. In 1996, New York Post ran a feature story on Markie's last race. Markie has a tremendous resemblance to his sire and he has a fantastic personality too. His favorite thing to do is hang out with his buddies in the pasture and he likes to entertain himself by pulling the tails of the other horses (see a picture of Markie pulling Zorro's tail in the photos). We are honored and thrilled that Markie's last owner chose Bright Futures Farm over the Kentucky Horse Park for his retirement home.

SENILITY (Lilli)

RACEHORSE AND ACCOMPLISHED HUNTER

SENILITY (Sanill - Torn Curtain)

Registered Thoroughbred Mare

16 Hands, Foaled: 1997

Lilli was a poor performer as a racehorse and after her last race, she was sent to the Sugarcreek Livestock Auction with two other Thoroughbreds. Susan Wagner of Equine Advocates out-bid the kill buyers, purchasing all three horses for $2,550. After Lilli was rescued, she went on to live a wonderful life. In Florida, Lilli was schooled to play polo and was a hunter, routinely winning Reserve Grand Champion. Lillie's owner, Alle, became ill in 2011 and arranged for her beloved horses to retire to Bright Futures Farm. Since Alle's passing in 2012, all of her children-Lilli, Free, Luiga and Chloe (the dog who won't listen)-have had their forever home at Bright Futures Farm and are all safe and thriving.

FREE TO SIN (Free)

SKILLED JUMPER AND BELOVED FRIEND

FREE TO SIN (Fly So Free - Naive)

Registered Thoroughbred Gelding

16.1 Hands, Foaled: 2002

Free was bred in Kentucky, and was sired by Fly So Free, the 1990 2-year old champion and sire of Captain Steve, winner of the 6 million dollar Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) in 2001.

Free had a less than stellar career at the track and was up for sale when my friend, Alle Simmons was looking for another "Fly So Free" after she lost her beloved Gunner (Top Guns Fly Free) in an  accident. Bev found Free in Ohio, and after talking with his trainer, Alle purchased him in 2008. He was a skilled jumper and a beloved friend. Upon Alle's death in February, Free moved to Bright Futures Farm where he is now a permanent resident.

CATCH THIS T (T)

HIT BY A TRUCK, STARVED AND ABUSED

CATCH THIS T (Foreign Survivor - Take the Avenue)

Registered Thoroughbred Gelding

16.1 Hands, Foaled: 1993

Catch This T (T) was in an accident with a truck in 1999, was starved four years ago, and then contracted EPM. He has neuropathy and requires chiropractic, massage and acupuncture treatments to stay healthy and comfortable. "T" has been through more than can be imagined, but he has survived it all. This year he's dappled. Dapples are a sign of good health and balance within, and it is heartwarming to finally see T healthy!

FRICK

FRIEND AND GUIDE TO FRACK AND LILLI

FRICK

Leopard Appaloosa Gelding

15.3 Hands, Foaled: 1984

Frick arrived at Bright Futures Farm with his best buddy Frack. Both had been serving at a riding academy and when Frack lost most of his sight, the stable owner wanted to sell them at an auction. Frick, the sighted one, may have had a chance at a private home, but Frack would probably have been bought by a kill buyer and sent to a slaughterhouse. The stable manager was given one week to find them a home, and through networking on the Fans of Barbaro blog, we took them in. At Bright Futures Farm, they lived together in a special stall and paddock and they spend their days together, never too far apart. When Frack died, Frick made friends with Lady, our blind mare. He is an exceptional buddy and protector to Lady, staying close to her and guiding her at our farm.

GOMER

WANDERED INTO A WONDERFUL HOME

GOMER

Appaloosa Gelding

15.1 Hands, Foaled: 1999

Twelve years ago, Gomer and his buddy, Gus wandered onto the property Bright Futures Farm calls home. They were skinny and unkempt. Our friends, who owned the property at the time, nursed them back to health and they became part of the family and herd.  Gomer and Gus stayed with the farm when BFF bought it, and Gomer is now a permanent resident. Over the last few years, he’s lost sight in both eyes but it hasn’t limited his activities. He still goes out with his buds, and comes and goes from his stall, usually on his own, and sometimes with a little nudge once he is pointed in the right direction. He has adapted well to his recent total loss of sight and is a kind, gentle, old soul.

STAR BOGGS

WONDERFUL FRIEND TO ALL IN THE HERD

STAR BOGGS

Thoroughbred Gelding

16 Hands, Foaled: 1999

Star was schooled as a Dressage horse but has not been ridden for several years. He has some nerve damage and as a result, is unsteady on his front legs when going down hills. He is currently on Blue Seal Min-A-Vite™ supplement and is a wonderful pasture-mate in the Bright Futures Farm herd's hierarchy.

ALINA

A SWEET COMPANION

SASSA (ALINA)

Arabian Mare

14.2 Hands, Foaled: 05/10/89

Alina is a beautiful, spirited Arabian mare. She lived the first 18 years of her life only with her mother. There were no other horses on the property, so she didn’t learn herd hierarchy or social skills. She was adopted to a family in 2010 whose daughter rode her occasionally, but for the most part she was a pet. In 2011, returned to our farm because the adopters were no longer caring for her (see the last two pictures in the slideshow on the right). She has now gained all of her weight back and is healthy and happy, even though she cannot be ridden.

BLACK RATTLER

A SWEET ELDER STALLION

BLACK RATTLER (Streakin Dixon - Snips Sunday Cutter)

Registered Paint Stallion

15 Hands, Foaled: 1988

Black almost lost his left front foot in an accident when he was eighteen months old. The injury was treated properly, and other than scar tissue and nerve damage, Black is sound. Black’s came to Bright Futures Farm when his long-time owners were forced to move and no one would let them board an older stallion. We found a permanent foster home for Black in New York with Sweet Lips with our two wonderful friends, Janet and Jamie. They cannot cover all of Black’s feed and board, so sponsorships are very important.

MY KINDA CIRCUS

SWEET AND KIND COMPANION

MY KINDA CIRCUS (Tiny Circus - Misty Two Socks)

Quarter Horse Pony Mare

14.2 Hands, Foaled: 1988

Chelsea is a wonderful mare. She was shown in her younger days and has lovely ground manners. She lost sight in her left eye and it is no issue for her. She cannot be stalled. She will pace and circle incessantly if stalled. She is best suited to a situation with one or two other horses with free access to shelter 24/7. She does best with a routine and would be a great companion for a lone horse. Chelsea is pasture sound, but should no longer be ridden.

KARDIAC KID

VERY KIND AND SWEET COMPANION

KARDIAC KID (Montbrook - Office Gals)

Thoroughbred Gelding

16.3 Hands, Foaled: 05/05/1999

Kid was named for the heart-stopping 1980 season of the Cleveland Browns because so many of their games that year were decided in the heart-stopping final moments. Kid is a well-seasoned trail horse that traveled regularly to Gettysburg and other destinations for group trail rides. Over the years his arthritis has worsened, and while he could most likely be ridden occasionally, we feel it's in his best interest to just retire permanently and be a horse. He is currently listed as a permanent resident here, but if the right companion home came along, we'd be happy to see him find his own person. He has exceptional ground manners and loves being around people. He is very low in the pecking order and takes time to choose his friends. He's a very kind horse and easy on the eyes.

GODON

A BEAUTIFUL BOY AND BARN FAVORITE

GODON

Warmblood Gelding

17.2 Hands, Foaled: 1997

Godon is a beautiful boy that is very well-schooled and has impeccable manners, both on the ground and under saddle. He is initially timid, but gets along well with other horses. He is very protective of Lilli and doesn't like any other horse (except Brite) showing any interest in her. He will always defer to Brite. Godon is a very uncomplicated horse and while he has always enjoyed having a job, years of hard work, and injuries at some point have let to the decision to retire him permanently. His rear suspensories have dropped and he now wears eggbar shoes in the back for support. He is a former Gran Prix jumper and was competing at 4th level Dressage prior to his injuries. He is very kind and while slow to accept it, loves attention.

BRANDI

SWEET, FEISTY AND A GOOD FRIEND

BRANDI

Quarter Pony Mare

14.2 Hands, Foaled: 1990

Brandi came to us in October 2015 as an owner surrender. Her former owner called and told us that they could no longer care for her and she had lost some weight. She said she tried to make it work as long as she and her husband could, but they could no longer keep her. Brandi was underweight, but not emaciated and she is gaining nicely. She is not rideable due to degenerative cartilage in her right hip. Sometimes sweet and sometimes feisty, she’s found her soul mate in another permanent resident, our blind Appaloosa gelding, Gomer.

WILD MIDNIGHT (George)

A GORGEOUS EX-SHOW JUMPER

WILD MIDNIGHT (George)

(Wild Wonder - Midnight Cinderella)

Thoroughbred Gelding

16.2 Hands, Foaled: 05/08/2002

George had a lackluster race career and went on to be a formidable opponent in show jumping. George came to BFF through a mutual friend. He continued to jump once adopted, but developed large masses of melanomas in various parts of his body including inside his lips. For now, they are manageable and we are thankful for that. He does require at least two visits with the dentist each year to be sure his teeth don’t develop any points or hooks, and he is on Cimetidine for the remainder of his life in an attempt to slow their growth. Please consider sponsoring George. His additional monthly expenses because of the melanomas is $150.
