Bright Futures Farm is an equine charity whose primary focus is re-homing off the track Thoroughbreds...horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or injury…horses unwanted by their owners and sent to auction where most are purchased for slaughter.  Our dedication has grown to include providing sanctuary for older horses that are unwanted after their "useful years" are over, including older stallions that cannot be gelded due to the risk of complications.

We are always in need of foster homes.  When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm.  Fostering expenses are tax-deductible.  If you have room, please ask us about our foster program.

Thoroughbreds

- under construction -

Betherunner (Max)

(Thunder Runner - Lucinda B)

1987 chestnut Thoroughbred gelding.  16 hh. Star, LH sock.

Max had been a school horse for a number of years and retired from schooling in 2006.  He was adopted, then returned due to economic issues.  He sustained a bow to his RF in 2007 and was on rehab through the end of Feb. 2008.  Max is completely healed and is a great teacher and a wonderful trail horse.  Max is patient and kind.  He listens well.  He has done at least training level Dressage.

Max has been placed with C. Sambol of PA

Boxster

1992 dark brown Austrailian TB, 16.3 hh. star, snip, LH coronet

Boxster is a Gran Prix Jumper.  He is being retired from the circuit because they have a number of younger horses that they will be using consistently this year. Boxster has retired sound.  Boxster is one of the kindest, horses I have met. He has a very easy going personality and is ready for a new career as a trail horse, or personal school horse.  We want him to find a home where he will not be over used. While he is still physically capable of clearing 3-5 feet with ease, we do not want him to be asked to do that consistently. He is a great “instructor” and can take a new rider over cross rails with skill and ease.

Boyle Heights Kid (Boy)

( )

19   dark brown Thoroughbred gelding.  16.1 hh.

Brittney's Joy (Brittney)

(Brahams - Tarnished Lady)

2004 bay Thoroughbred mare.  15.3 hh. RH coronet.

Brittney has good ground manners, and is quick to learn.   She has an old slab fracture to her LF knee.  She can do light flatwork, light trail riding/pleasure riding.

Brittney has been placed with S. Frey and family of New York

C. Taylor Run (Tay)

2003 bay Thoroughbred mare.  15.3 hh.

When we first heard of Tay, she was the one "quietly waiting her turn" to go into the auction ring at the Camelot Auction in Cranbury, NJ.  She was footsore, and no one bought her, which meant she went to the feedlot and would have shipped to slaughter within days if we hadn't stepped up and purchased her.  Tay was fostered by a wonderful friend, H. Chandler of Ohio, and was given love and attention and time for her feet to grow out.  She then went to school for sixty days with professional trainers (Thank you H. and After The Finish Line for covering the cost of Tay's schooling).  That foundation was exactly what she needed.  Tay is a wonderful girl.  Sound for any discipline and a very lovely and willing mare.

Taylor has been placed with R. Carr of Pennsylvania

(Dance Brightly - Northland Belle)

2001 bay Thoroughbred Mare. rh half sock.

Envious is a very sweet mare.  Sound, good ground manners.  She received professional schooling thanks to Caitlin S, and After The Finish Line, and has found a home in Maryland with a lovely young lady.

Envy has been placed with J. Rice & family of Maryland

Go Cong

(Congaree - Strawberry Road)   2006 grey gelding.

Cong is currently w-t-c under saddle, knows his leads and has a natural lead change.  He has also jumped a few small crossrails.  His groundwork has included lunging in side reins at the walk & trot and some ground driving.  Due to the weather, he's had little turnout, and would benefit greatly from that.  He's a smart horse, and is doing quite well with his schooling.  That said, he's a young boy and does lack focus, so he will need a knowledgeable home w.r.t. schooling, and he will need to be in a "program".  He does have slight lordosis (slight swayback), so you'll need to be sure to properly fit his saddle to avoid bridging and have adequate clearance over the withers.  Cong will be a very nice pleasure horse and could also do hunters or jump.

Cong has been placed with Holly R of CT

Holme On Time (Homer)

(Bolting Holme - Feather Bob)

1996 chestnut Thoroughbred gelding, 16.1 hh white hairs on forehead

Homer is a kind, honest horse.  He has an old slab fracture in his LF knee, and can be ridden lightly.

Homer has been placed with L & J Buckner of PA

Just A Genius (Gene)

(Beau Genius - My Lady Lynn)

1997 chestnut Thoroughbred gelding, √ shaped star

Gene is a companion only.  He has some moderate arthritis in hocks, and while pasture sound, should not carry a rider as he will get sore with regular work.

Gene has been placed with S. Frey and family of New York

Laugh A Little (Guff)

(Deposit Ticket - Joy In The Morning)

2001 Chestnut Thoroughbred gelding.  16 hands. Star, stripe.

Guff is a well-schooled horse who enjoys working. Great horse who does his best when he's in a program.

Guff has been placed with C. Hanlon of TN

Lovbudd's Brass (Blackie) (Dixie Brass – O’Wicked by Ogygian)

1997 dark brown Thoroughbred gelding. ~16 hands. Blackie is a great horse.  Great on trails...great in the ring... easy going.  Loves attention. Laid back.  Just about anyone could ride Blackie. Blackie and Buddy are bonded, and they were adopted together!

Blackie has been placed with H. Sambol & family of PA

Thank you for adopting both Blackie & Buddy.

Safari Sand (Buddy) (Raja's Revenge - Apple Danish ) 1990 Dark brown Thoroughbred gelding.  15.3. hands. Buddy is a wonderful horse.  Honest, and dependable.  Great on trails...great in the ring. Just about anyone could ride Blackie. Blackie and Buddy are bonded, and they were adopted together!

Buddy has been placed with H. Sambol & family of PA

Thank you for adopting both Blackie & Buddy.

Short Squeeze (Shorty)

(Dynaformer - Blond Moment)

1999 Bay Thoroughbred gelding.  17.1 hands. Star, two hind socks.

Short Squeeze, aka Shorty, was pulled on 1/22/10 from the Sugar Creek OH feedlot.  He was purchased with donations from the Fans of Barbaro.  He's been living at the KY Horse Park in the hope that he would work out for either their Parade of Breeds, or their Mounted Patrol (he's 17.1 hh).

Shorty won $200,076 in his career.

He was ridden by Richard Miglori, Lonnie Mesche, Edgar S. Prado and Chantal Sutherland.

Shorty has a magnetic personality and everyone who meets him falls in love with him!  He captured our hearts :-)

Shorty was recently evaluated under saddle by Maker's Mark Secretariat Center.  Unfortunately, he cannot be ridden.  He was asked to walk and trot over a period of about ten minutes.  He was visibly lame under saddle.  Upon his inability to carry a rider (even though he IS pasture sound), Maker's Mark ordered x-rays.  The films show a condylar fracture that was surgically repaired, his RF fetlock is fused and has floating chips, and his RF knee also has floating chips. Carrying his own weight is not an issue.  Carrying a rider is.

Shorty has been placed with Nicole V. of Pennsylvania

Simmer

2000 dark brown Thoroughbred mare. star, stripe, snip, socks.

She LOVES trail riding. She's gone alone, with dogs, in a group, alone. Goes through water. She's not spooky. She stands tied, stands quietly in the trailer. Stands to mount and dismount. Works best in a simple snaffle. She has done flatwork also. She is strong at the canter (she LOVES to "go"), but does listen if you do not want her to gallop. She is not "mare-ish" at all.  She gets along with the boys and the girls, no mixed herd issues.

Simmer has been placed with Howard B of Pennsylvania

Singing Breeze

(Affirmed - Middle Course by Storm Bird)

1994 dark brown Thoroughbred mare. Star, stripe, snip, RH coronet, LF ankle.

Singing Breeze was rescued from the Sugarcreek Livestock Auction on 10/2/09.  She arrived there very underweight and without papers.  If  Rachael Paris hadn't stopped to look at her, she would be on her way to Canada right now...a horrid death inevitable within days.  She has a severe crack in  one hoof, and is somewhat lame on that foot right now. I was able to successfully identify her with the help of the Jockey Club through photos and a partial tattoo.   more to come..... 10/14/09 Breeze went to Kentucky on Monday to live with Erin at Novelli Wellness Center.  We didn't know if she was pregnant or not.  She was bred on 5/1 to Stephen Got Even at Lane's End, and was pronounced in foal at some point thereafter.  She had an ultrasound yesterday, 10/13/09 and she is not pregnant.  We will guess that she slipped and was either given away, then dumped at auction, or dumped with a dealer/at auction.  Her coggins said 'Standardbred"  Error or intentional?  Her breeder is very upset over her needing to be rescued from an auction, as are we.  She's very sweet, kind, and got a clean bill of health from the vet.

Breezy has been placed with E. Hogan of KY

Stalker Man (Luke)

(Fleet Stalker - Ver Bak)

1998 bay Thoroughbred gelding.  16.2 hands.  small crescent star, RH coronet.

Luke has been schooled through Second Level Dressage and is now being schooled over fences.  He is not yet available to adopt.

Luke is being fostered and schooled by Brittney W of Pennsylvania
