Descended from Thoroughbred royalty, Nileinsky is the grandson of the great NijinskyII, the first English Triple Crown winner (St. Leger, Two Thousand Guineas, Epsom Derby) in 35 years, winning that prestigious trio in 1970. In watching videos of Nijinsky, Nileinsky is the spitting image of his legendary gransdire's personality.  Dug has the same zest for life and the same "take control" way of galloping off like he owns the pasture as Nijinsky II.

We rescued Dug from the kill pen at an auction in New Jersey. He was one of the last horses run through the auction. He’d come in with a chestnut mare. They were both dumped at the auction by a high end boarding/lesson stable in Connecticut when they were too old to handle the demanding lesson schedule. Dug was 27 when we bought him, and he was very thin. His feet were in horrible condition. His heels were so high the angle made him very sore. A friend in Ohio, Suzann T., fostered Dug, and with her good care, Dug started to gain weight and his coat became soft and shiny and shimmered in the sun. After about a year in his foster home, Dug became healthy enough to travel and came to Bright Futures Farm. He has been ridden several times, and the only “issue” that Dug has is a very slight hitch when he moves off. It is hardly noticeable and it doesn't bother him. He’s a wonderful horse to ride. He knows his job and is "all work" when he’s tacked up. He and Tiny (our elder Standardbred mare) have become inseparable, and are best buddies and pasture mates.

SPONSORSHIP NEEDS

Please consider sponsoring Dug each month. He is a good boy that we rescued from an auction in New Jersey. He was in the kill pen, and almost sent to slaughter. Read all about him on the left.

SPONSORING ONE OF OUR WONDERFUL PERMANENT RESIDENTS AT BRIGHT FUTURES

We are so excited that you're thinking about sponsoring one of the wonderful horses that lives with us! Most of the horses that come through our doors have been shuffled from place to place, and have been abused and neglected. The horses that have permanently retired to our farm are the one's with the saddest stories of  all, because these are the horses that no one wants. Some of these horses have grown old, and because they cannot be ridden and are no longer "useful," no one wants them anymore. Other horses that live at our farm are also considered by many to be "useless," because they have disabilities and injuries. No matter what the reason is, when a horse come to live with us at Bright Futures, we make it our number one priority to see that it will be safe, and have a BRIGHT FUTURE for the rest of its life. Please consider sponsoring one of these very special horses each month? You will literally be giving them the gift of life.
