Bright Futures Farm is an equine charity whose primary focus is re-homing off the track Thoroughbreds…horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or injury.  Once deemed “unprofitable” by their owners, tens of thousands each year are sent to auction with the owner knowing full-well that the majority will be purchased by “kill buyers” for slaughter (for human consumption overseas).

Our dedication has grown to include providing sanctuary for older horses that are unwanted after their “useful years” are over, including older stallions that cannot be gelded due to the risk of complications.  We are one of only two known facilities in the United States that accept senior stallions.

We are always in need of foster homes. When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm.  Fostering expenses are tax-deductible.  If you have room, please ask us about our foster program.

Sponsor A Horse

Here at Bright Futures Farm, we have fourteen horses at any given time.  At least half of them are Permanent  Residents … retirees that were unwanted by former owners once they were no longer “useful” or “profitable”.  Our Seniors range in age from 28 to 34.  Click here to meet our Permanent Residents.   The remaining horses are horses that can be re-schooled for a new career, or are already schooled, and are just waiting for that perfect person who can be their new partner.  They are listed as “Available Horses” on our home page, and are available to adopt once evaluated.

It is only with your help that we can continue to care for Seniors on a regular basis.  Senior horses require a special diet tailored to each individual’s needs.  Most of our seniors are on a diet of Triple Crown Senior, Hay Stretcher, Kelp Meal, Probiotics & B-L Pellets (an anti-inflammatory for arthritis).  Many of them are still able to eat hay.  Those that cannot must be on a diet of approximately 15 pounds of grain/hay stretcher daily in addition to the supplements.

All of the horses at our facility, both adoptable horses and permanent residents receive veterinary care whenever needed, regularly scheduled hoof care (every six to eight weeks) and annual dental care.  The approximate cost to care for one horse for one month (all-inclusive) is $400.  Emergency care is above and beyond that figure, and thank goodness, not often needed.

If you believe in our mission, please help us keep our Senior Sanctuary an ongoing part of our mission.  These are the horses who have served man all their lives only to be thrown away like yesterday’s trash when they can no longer work.  Yet…these are the horses that have so much dignity, wisdom and tolerance.  They just need the opportunity to shine again, know they are loved, and feel the respect they have always deserved.  They are loyal and kind and oh…so smart!

If you would like to sponsor one of our Permanent Residents, you can donate on line, via Paypal using the button below or you can mail a check or money order to the address below.  Bright Futures Farm is a 501(c)(3) public charity and all contributions are tax-deductible.  Our staff consists entirely of volunteers.  None of our volunteers or board members are paid.  100% of all contributions are used to care for the horses at our facility.

To sponsor a horse through Paypal (a secure online transaction) or via major credit card, please click the link below.  You determine the amount you wish to donate.  Once you have indicated the amount you wish to donate and logged into/created your account, you will see an option to "Add special instructions to the seller".  Please click that link and type the name of the horse you wish to sponsor into the box.
